Everything your home needs for your new cat

by Akshay Mirchandani

Whether you’re bringing home a new kitten or adopting a cat, there’s nothing more exciting than waking up to those playful, cuddly furballs! To ensure a comfortable start to this new bond, here’s what you will require at home before your cat arrives:

  1. Kitty Litter

One of the perks of having a cat as a pet is that they’re naturally inclined to use the same area to “go”. So, all you will require is a litter box for your cat! They come in a variety of options from a plastic tray to automated ones. Just invest in one that your cat would be comfortable using.

2.Bedding

Cats love having their own place to sleep. From a wide variety of choices, ensure you buy a bed that is soft and warm for your kitty. Some of the best ones that are available are pillows and donut-shaped nest-beds.

3.Scratching posts

Since cats love to scratch, it is advisable to invest in a sturdy, stable and tall scratching post that they can scratch, instead of scratching you or your furniture. There are plenty of options available to choose from, but get one that is strong enough to last long.

4.Food and water bowls

Invest in two stainless steel bowls for food and water for your cat as they are easy to clean and are long-lasting. Ensure that the bowls are shallow in their design so that your cat can reach its food easily.

5.Toys

These playful creatures love their playtime! Invest in plenty of toys as they are an important tool for the development of cats. But make sure that the toys are larger than a ping-pong ball because anything smaller may be a choking hazard.

6.Grooming

To make sure your cat continues looking its cute self, ensure you buy basic grooming tools like a metal-toothed comb, a bristle brush and a flea comb. You should also invest in a deshedder tool, which removes loose hairs from your cat’s coat.

7. Collar and Carrier

Even though you’re not likely to take your cat for a walk, make sure you get your cat a collar which also has an identification tag. Buy a collar with “break-away” or “snap away” features to ensure the safety of your cat. Also, buy a carrier to safely transport your cat outside the comfort of your home.
