Summer care tips for pets!

The dull weather is gone and the bright, lively summer days have arrived. With the fun and pleasant sun gleaming in the sky, there are tips that need to be kept in mind to make sure that your pup is safe and away from health problems in the warm temperatures.

Keep reading to know the 5 ways to ensure a healthy summer for your pet.

1-Warm, Hot, Hotter, Hottest!

The temperature during the day keeps going up. The best is to keep the pets indoors during the hottest parts of the day. Unlike humans who sweat, dogs release their body heat through their paw pads and/or by panting. Breeds with smaller muzzles like Pugs have high chances of experiencing heat strokes as it is difficult for them to release the heat. Make sure your pet is given enough water supply to stay hydrated throughout the day.

2- Keep the insects away!

Summer time may be the best time for the pets to play but it may lead to infections and diseases. The best way to keep your pet safe is by checking its fur after a day on the ground for fleas, ticks and other insects that might have latched onto the body. A regular check-up and washing is important to avoid infections due to fertilizers and pesticides that are usually sprayed on the grounds.

3-Put on some sunscreen

Just like humans, pets with short coats and pink skin are very much susceptible to sunburns. To avoid it, it is best to visit the vet and use the prescribed sunscreen lotions that are designed especially for the furry ones.

Put it on and let your little one enjoy a summer day out!

4-Ensure water safety

It is sure fun to take your pet to the pool to cool off on a hot summer day but it is also important to keep a closer eye on them as even a strong swimmer could get itself into trouble. For other risky adventures, it is best advised to have a dog/pet preserver to ensure safety and health.

5- Do not leave the pup in the car!

Leaving pets locked in the car is never safe, especially when the weather gets warmer. High temperatures can cause irreparable organ damage and even death. Make sure you leave your pet in a safe and sound place with proper ventilation.

Summer pet safety isn’t hard, it just requires some thought and attention. The best is to watch over the pet as you would over a small child to protect them too much heat, sun, and other summer dangers.
